It’s incredible how your body reacts to bad food, and after a long past couple of days spent partying for prom, my body needs nothing but clean healthy foods to get back on track in the gym!

The difference between wanting to be “fit” and wanting to be “skinny”…
Skinny is not pretty! Being fit, on the other hand, is sexy as hell!

Hey friends! Today I really want to talk about something I, personally, find very offensive and degrading. As some of you may know, the popular chain of fitness centers, Planet Fitness, have adopted what they call the “Judgment Free Zone”, but what I consider to be the anti-fitness persona. Now, some people may agree, some may disagree, and I am in NO WAY implying that all of Planet Fitness’ members are anti-fitness. In fact, I know several bikini competitors who choose to do their cardio at Planet Fitness. What I am saying, however, is that, as someone who is very passionate about leading an active lifestyle, I find it a bit unsettling that a “gym” could operate the way Planet does. With free pizza fridays and tootsie roll candies readily available to any tempted snacker, it is hard to believe that anyone would find this a place to positively impact their health related goals. Also, Planet Fitness has adopted an anti-body builder image as well. They have things such as the “lunk alarm” which discourage making grunting noises while lifting. Now, following their theme of being judgment free, I could see where this would make sense and fit in to their business model. And, up until recently I did not have a problem with Planet Fitness. If they wish to portray a certain image, who was I to judge…

However, a certain commercial they put out began to change my opinion. The commercial was supposed to be funny. It featured a man who seemed to fit every stereotype of a bodybuilder. He was strong, dumb, loud, and even shown saying “I pick things up and put things down”. When I first saw it, my instinct was to laugh. But, the more I think about it, the more it deeply offends me. First of all, I lift…heavy! And I am extremly proud of that! Also, I know several bodybuilders, and let me tell you, you have to be extremly intelligent to be a successful bodybuilder. Second, Planet Fitness claims they promote being judgment free, that stepping into their facility will make anyone feel comfotable and accepted. They claim to be a tool to help everyone achieve their goals. Well, in my opinion I feel very judged, and although I would not be anywhere near the size of the man in the commericial, I feel that if I stepped in a Planet Fitness I would be unaccepted and even looked down upon for being in good shape.

These are just my opinions, for what it’s worth, and they do not necessarily reflect Sweat Blood Nation’s opinion as a whole. So, if anyone out there does belong to Planet Fitness I would love to hear from you. Let me know why you like it or why you don’t. Feel free to argue or agree with any of  statements.
